If you are a resident of Toronto and have had to endure the process of cleaning up after a flood, as I have, you will probably do just about anything to prevent it from happening again. A great solution that can significantly reduce the risk of basement flooding is to isolate and remove your home from the City’s sewer system. Sounds costly? Well, the city wants to help with that. Home owners can now receive a financial subsidy of up to $3,400 to install flood protection devises, including a backwater valve, a sump pump, and pipe severance and capping of the home’s storm sewer or external weeping tile connection.
For more information on how you can apply, please visit the Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program website.
